Curriculum Information

Our curriculum comprises all the learning and other experiences that we plan for in order to meet the needs and interests of all our pupils. It is constantly evolving to develop the skills needed for children to become successful learners; help prepare them for life in modern Britain and empower them to achieve success in the future. Our aim is to deliver a broad and balanced creative curriculum that challenges, excites and inspires children to become successful and confident learners and achieve their best.

Curriculum Plan

At Newton Road School we believe that the experiences children have at the very start of their school life are important in ensuring that they grow up as independent and self-motivated learners for life. Our curriculum works on a 2-year rolling cycle and ensures National Curriculum coverage across all of the key content and the development of key knowledge and skills across the school, using a key text to enhance the learning.  We are currently completing Cycle A.

Homework

The children should use their learning log to record their homework. They are also expected as part of their homework to read with an adult every day. This should be recorded daily in the learning log and signed by an adult. For older children from Year 5 upwards, they should discuss what they have read, referring to prompts in the reading section, even if they have read to themselves.

The children also have half termly spellings to learn and half term key skills maths homework to support their learning within the classroom. Each half term the children will also be set a homework project linked to their learning theme.

We thank you for your continued support. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
